About the WPSF
Established to protect and unite the communities of Wellway Park and Proteaville
Our Mission
The Wellway Protea Security Forum (WPSF) is a voluntary association of residents from Wellway Park and Proteaville — suburbs of Durbanville — who proactively respond to crime threats in their community. We are affiliated with the Durbanville Community Police Forum and operate in full cooperation with SAPS and local security services.
Our founding motto captures everything we stand for:
"Making Our Community Safer!"
Our Five Objectives
Proactive Crime Prevention
Define boundaries, establish patrol zones with SAPS guidance, and set up the necessary communication infrastructure to prevent crime before it happens.
Recognition & Cooperation
Work closely with SAPS and local armed response companies. We inform them of our activities and build lasting partnerships that make the whole system stronger.
Community & Unity
Organise social events, braais, and fundraisers that bring neighbours together and foster the kind of community trust that is itself a crime deterrent.
Public Awareness
Distribute safety tips, crime prevention news, and updates so that every resident is informed and vigilant — because an aware community is a safe community.
Cooperation with Law Enforcement
Facilitate direct dialogue between residents and SAPS, ensuring that community concerns are heard and that policing is responsive to local needs.
How Our Patrols Work
Personal Vehicles
Volunteers use their own vehicles to patrol predefined zones within Wellway Park and Proteaville.
Observe & Report Only
Our mandate is strictly to observe and report. Volunteers never confront suspects — that is the job of SAPS and armed response.
Safety First
Volunteers follow documented safety guidelines, obey all traffic laws, and sign an indemnity form before their first patrol.
Infrastructure Observation
We also report non-crime issues — broken street lights, unattended plots, graffiti — that can lead to crime if left unaddressed.
Membership
Membership is completely free and voluntary. To join you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be a resident, or own property or a business, in Wellway Park or Proteaville
- Provide proof of residence or ownership
- Accept the WPSF Constitution and Code of Conduct
There are two membership types: Patrolling Members who actively join patrols, and Non-Patrolling Members who support the forum in other ways. Every contribution matters.
